Paystack vs. Flutterwave: Choosing Your Payment Gateway

Both are solid choices for Nigerian and African sellers — here's how we decide which to integrate.

Two strong, similar options

For Nigerian and broader African sellers, Paystack and Flutterwave are both reliable, well-supported payment gateways with card, bank transfer, and USSD options. Neither is a wrong choice, but a few practical differences shape which one we recommend.

Paystack: our usual default

Paystack tends to have a slightly simpler integration for straightforward store checkouts and strong documentation, which keeps build time down. We default to it for most local Nigerian client builds unless there's a specific reason to choose otherwise.

Flutterwave: better for multi-country reach

If you're selling across several African countries or need a wider range of currencies and payout options, Flutterwave's broader regional coverage often makes it the better fit. We use it as the alternative for clients with a genuinely cross-border customer base.

Our approach

Every custom store we build supports both as options, with Paystack as primary and Flutterwave as the alternative — so you're never dependent on a single gateway's uptime or policies. Global clients outside Africa pay via Stripe or PayPal through Zinn Hub instead.
